Injury Forces Early Exit

San Francisco 49ers receiver Mike Evans played through Achilles soreness for most of the first half on Monday night against the Washington Commanders. He departed with a little more than a minute left in the half due to an Achilles injury. The team initially labeled Evans as questionable to return before ruling him out early in the third quarter.

With 1:10 left in the second quarter, Evans caught a 16-yard pass from quarterback Brock Purdy. After Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves brought him down, Evans stayed on the field and started stretching his right leg. Medical staff ran out, helped him up, and supported him as he slowly walked back to the locker room.

Strong Performance Cut Short

Evans did not practice all week because he was recovering from broken ribs and a sore Achilles. He carried a questionable tag entering the game.

Despite the physical issues, Evans was having a big half before he had to leave. He posted three catches for 94 yards.

Thinning Receiver Ranks

The departure leaves the team with limited options at the position. Without Evans, the only four healthy receivers available for the 49ers are Jordan Watkins, Brandin Cooks, Jacob Cowing, and Malik Turner.
