The broadcast story and apology

Broadcaster Mike Breen spoke out on Wednesday to say sorry for the reaction to a story he shared during the Philadelphia 76ers preseason opener against the New York Knicks. Breen told people he was disappointed by how the story was interpreted. He explained that his whole intent was praising LeBron James for having a positive impact on team accountability, even if it involved a player getting to practice a minute or two late. During the fourth quarter of the 120-97 win over the Knicks, Breen mentioned hearing that James reacted when Joel Embiid did not make it to the practice court on time. Breen stated that someone he trusted told him the story before the game, and he thought it showed leadership. In hindsight, he realized that mentioning Embiid specifically is what turned it into a major talking point, and he feels awful about putting that focus on him.

LeBron James and Nick Nurse react

LeBron James used his Instagram account to push back on the story. He wrote that Embiid had not been late and told people to stop the lies. Breen accepted the view of James and stated that if LeBron says it never happened, he believes him and apologizes for putting the story out there. Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse mentioned that he only learned about the situation after Wednesday practice. Nurse told reporters he is focused entirely on getting players to the practice and game floors. Nurse added that Joel Embiid has been excellent, working very hard, and playing great.
