Fightback victory at Old Trafford
Manchester United produced a major fightback at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening, recovering from 2-0 down to defeat Roma 3-2. The win brought an end to a painful run of nine matches without a single victory for the club. It also halted a sequence of three straight defeats across all competitions.
The match contained plenty of drama before the kickoff. Supporters expressed their frustration by throwing tennis balls onto the pitch before the action started. Additionally, manager Michael Carrick made a big call with his lineup by dropping Bruno Fernandes from the starting eleven.
Carrick stays grounded despite win
Speaking after the final whistle, 45 year old manager Michael Carrick described the comeback as an important night for the squad. However, he made it clear that he will not allow anyone to lose focus after just one successful result.
The situation in the domestic league remains serious for Manchester United. They are sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table, hovering above the relegation zone on goal difference alone.
Carrick said he is not getting too carried away with things right now. He emphasized that the club must take stock of where they are, remain calm, and get completely ready for another major fixture waiting for them on the weekend.
Manager focuses on player effort
When asked about his personal feelings, Carrick insisted he felt no sense of relief when the match ended. He said he was genuinely pleased for his players rather than thinking about his own position under pressure.
Carrick noted that he could feel the willingness of the players to do well on the pitch. He felt proud watching them dig deep to secure the result for everyone at Old Trafford.
He added that he did not think about himself for a single moment. His main focus was seeing the players and supporters experience the positive feeling that comes when the team gets things right.
