Michael Carrick is facing an uncertain future at Manchester United following a terrible run of poor results.

Trouble at Carrington

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick arrived at the training ground on Monday afternoon. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox held formal talks regarding his future after the team suffered a damaging defeat over the weekend.

Sunday brought a heavy 3-0 loss at Old Trafford against Bournemouth. That result followed a 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como, leaving the squad without a win in eight matches.

Mounting Pressure on the Boss

Carrick previously steadied the club after taking charge in January, guiding the side up to third place in the Premier League. That good work earned him a two-year contract. However, just five months later, poor form has placed his position in serious jeopardy.

United have only won two out of 12 matches across all competitions this term. Their return of seven points from eight league games marks their worst start to a season since 1986. They currently sit in 16th place, only one point above the relegation zone.

Internal Friction

Tensions are rising behind the scenes. Captain Bruno Fernandes was left on the bench against Bournemouth and questioned the manager's tactics after the Como match. Fernandes attended Carrington on Monday for pre-planned treatment despite a scheduled day off for the squad.

Meanwhile, defender Lisandro Martinez recently faced a fine and talks after criticising club leadership during interviews following a loss against Atletico Madrid.
