Waiting for the right time

Green Bay Packers star edge rusher Micah Parsons will not play Sunday against his former team, the Dallas Cowboys. He stated on his podcast that if this was Super Bowl week, he would play. Parsons has not yet returned to practice since last season's torn ACL and meniscus. He remains on the physically unable to perform list.

Parsons was injured on December 14 and had surgery on December 29. The Packers typically hold out players coming back from ACL surgery for at least nine months. Parsons is about nine and a half months removed from surgery.

Fixing the small things

Parsons explained on his podcast, The Edge with Micah Parsons, why he is not rushing his return. He wants to make sure he has all the small things fixed first. He noted that it is not just the ACL, but figuring out why the ACL happened and what was weak. He mentioned that coming back early can lead to an overcompensation injury on the other side.

He added that there is no point in returning for four weeks only to have another issue bother him. Earlier in the week, Packers coach Matt LaFleur said they are still waiting for Parsons to be medically cleared. LaFleur noted that you do not want one leg to be much stronger than the other leg.

Putting health first

Parsons had said during training camp this summer that a return against his former team in Week 6 was very realistic. On his podcast, he acknowledged that many people wanted him back for that game to make it bigger than it was. He stated that it is just another Sunday Night Football game between two good teams, and it is not about him.

He admitted that this might have let people down who thought he would want to return for the Dallas game. He concluded that he is in a phase of life where he just wants to be healthy again.
