Mets First Baseman Jared Young Hospitalised After Collision

The Incident

New York Mets first baseman Jared Young was carted off the field on Thursday night after a scary collision. The incident happened in the sixth inning of the game against Philadelphia. Young collided with pitcher Nolan McLean as both players tried to field a slow ground ball hit by Justin Crawford.

The Phillies were leading 1-0 at the time of the play. McLean ran toward first base on contact while Young initially moved back to the bag. McLean paused briefly, and Young reached for the ball with his right hand. As McLean started running again, he collided with Young's head and tripped over him. Young fell face first to the ground and lay there without moving.

Immediate Medical Attention

Mets manager Andy Green and a trainer rushed from the dugout to help the injured first baseman. A medical cart was quickly called to the field. McLean bent down with his hands on his knees while the rest of the Mets players gathered around Young.

Players from both teams showed deep concern. Catcher Francisco Alvarez was seen praying, while Alec Bohm of the Phillies took a knee near third base. Young was eventually secured on the cart. He gave a thumbs up to the crowd before being driven off the field through the left center field wall.

The Mets later announced that Young was being taken to a hospital for further examinations. The team confirmed that he still has feeling in his extremities.

Young's Season So Far

The 31 year old first baseman is playing in his first full season in the major leagues. He has been a regular player for the Mets, batting .266 with nine home runs and 39 RBIs in 103 games this year.

This is not his first injury setback this season. He previously missed six weeks of play due to an injury to his left knee.
