Tel in record breaking form for France
Tottenham forward Mathys Tel has matched the France under 21 goalscoring record. Tel scored a hat trick in a 7-1 win against Switzerland on Tuesday night. The victory helped France finish their group campaign unbeaten with eight wins, having already qualified for the 2027 European under 21 Championship.
Tel has now scored 17 goals for the under 21 side, equaling the record held by Odsonne Edouard. His form could earn him a senior call-up to Zinedine Zidane's France squad for the Nations League games in November.
The forward has yet to score for Spurs this season but hopes to bring his international form back to his club. Speaking about the record, Tel said his brother had been nagging him about it for months. He added that the team's qualification allowed him to give his best.
Tottenham face tough start and injury concerns
Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham side went into the international break at the bottom of the Premier League table. They suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa, which was their third loss in five opening league games.
Spurs have several fitness issues before their trip to Manchester United. Right-back Pedro Porro pulled out of the Spain squad with a hamstring injury. Defender Jan Paul van Hecke also left the Netherlands camp early due to a foot problem and is a doubt for the game.
There is better news regarding captain Micky van de Ven. He suffered a minor hand injury while playing for the Netherlands against Serbia. Netherlands manager Xavi confirmed the defender is okay and only felt dizzy after his finger was stepped on. Van de Ven is expected to play on Saturday.
