A New Face in Seattle
The Seattle Mariners announced on Tuesday that Jason Kanzler will take over as their new manager. Kanzler is thirty six years old and previously worked as the director of player development for the Chicago Cubs. He succeeds Dan Wilson, who managed the team during a disappointing campaign.
Kanzler spent five years in the Houston Astros organization before joining the Cubs in 2024. Former Astros manager Joe Espada was also a finalist for the job, but the Mariners chose Kanzler for his intelligence, intensity, and creativity.
Turning the Page After a Tough Year
The club finished with a 76-86 record and missed the playoffs after failing to live up to expectations in a mediocre division. Key players like Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez struggled offensively, while the pitching staff faltered down the stretch.
Mariners general manager Justin Hollander noted that Kanzler showed strong leadership skills during the interview process. Team president Jerry Dipoto added that Kanzler possesses the communication skills and intensity needed to build a championship standard in Seattle.
Looking Ahead to the Future
Kanzler inherits a talented roster featuring deep starting pitching and several rising young players. He previously worked with young talents in Chicago like Pedro Ramirez, Matt Shaw, and Pete Crow-Armstrong.
Mariners fans hope the new manager can fix the offensive struggles and get the team back to winning ways. Kanzler stated that he and his coaching staff are excited to work with the immense talent on the roster.
