Perfect start for the new manager
Enzo Maresca has made a strong start to life at Manchester City. Replacing Pep Guardiola was always going to bring questions, but the Italian manager has now won six games from six.
On Thursday night, City cruised to a 5-0 win over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup. Maresca took the opportunity to rotate his team, resting regular starters like Erling Haaland while handing minutes to academy talents and fringe players. Maresca admitted that it is normal for fans to have doubts when a new manager arrives, but he stated that he is focused only on taking things game by game.
Squad depth shines at the Etihad
The rotated side delivered in style. Floyd Samba, the 17 year old son of former Blackburn Rovers defender Chris Samba, scored twice on his senior debut. Rayan Cherki needed just 45 minutes on the pitch to score his third goal of the season before being substituted at the break.
Brazilian winger Allan also made an impact on his first appearance, scoring once and providing an assist. Ryan McAidoo came off the bench to score the fifth. City have now kept four clean sheets in a row, adding to earlier wins against FC Porto and Manchester United.
