Protests inside the stadium

Manchester United fans staged another protest against the leadership of the club before their Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday. Supporters wanted to show their frustration with the direction the team is taking both on and off the pitch.

The Stretford End was filled with green and gold balloons before kick off. These traditional colours reflect the history of the club and signal a clear rejection of the current leadership. Fans unfurled a new banner expressing their anger. The banner read, "We don't want a new stadium, we want new owners."

Failed walkout and fan chants

Several fan groups had called on supporters to make their voices heard during the fixture. They urged fans to take a stand against a perceived decline in club standards and an attack on traditional fan culture.

Organisers had proposed a fan walkout in the 21st minute of the match. This specific time was chosen to mark 21 years since the Glazer family buyout of Manchester United. The planned walkout came to nothing during the game, but many supporters still showed their anger.

As the Manchester United players walked out of the tunnel, fans voiced their opposition. They chanted against both the Glazer family and minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Frustration over stadium and squad spending

Many supporters are firmly against plans to build a new stadium to replace Old Trafford. Fans are unhappy that money has been allocated to purchase land for the project rather than being spent on improving the playing squad.

The protest comes at a time when the team is struggling on the field. Manchester United went 2-0 down inside four minutes against Aston Villa. That is the fastest the club has ever conceded two goals at the start of a game in Premier League history.

Following recent results, Manchester United dropped into the Premier League relegation zone. This marks a 40 year low for the club.
