Post match frustration

Manchester United leaders are looking closely at remarks made by Lisandro Martínez after a 2-0 loss against Atlético Madrid. The 28-year-old defender spoke to reporters on Tuesday night and criticized club director of football Jason Wilcox.

Martínez stated that he expected more from Wilcox during the summer transfer window. He also mentioned that the squad lacks the strength needed for big matches.

Discussions behind the scenes

Club leaders talked about the situation on Wednesday, which was a day off for the players. The team is scheduled to return to the Carrington training base on Thursday, and Martínez will learn then if he faces any punishment.

Meanwhile, Jason Wilcox still has the full backing of club chiefs. Wilcox joined Old Trafford as technical director in April 2024 and became director of football in December after Dan Ashworth left.

Backing from leadership

Ruben Amorim lost his job as head coach in January following a breakdown in his relationship with Wilcox. Minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe played a key role in bringing Wilcox to the club and remains happy with his performance in the hierarchy.
