Manchester City keep winning despite off-field drama

Despite financial rule breaches and an uncertain future, Manchester City continue to win matches under Enzo Maresca.

Winning on the Pitch

Fans at the Etihad Stadium chanted about relegation on Saturday, but the team on the pitch kept doing what they always do. Manchester City beat Ipswich Town 3 2. Erling Haaland scored two goals, bringing his total to 12 goals in 10 games in all competitions. Enzo Maresca became the first manager to win his first seven Premier League games, beating a record previously held by Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, and Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Phil Foden also scored his first goal since December 2025. It has been a turbulent time for the club after an independent panel found them guilty of multiple breaches of financial rules. A potential points deduction hangs over them, but the players continue to block out the noise and pick up three points.

Managing the Injuries

The latest win came at a high cost for Maresca and his squad. Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Nico O'Reilly, Antoine Semenyo, and Haaland all limped off with injuries in the second half. Haaland appeared in pain after a challenge with Ipswich defender Jack Clarke.

Maresca spoke about the injuries after the match. He mentioned that Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic said they were okay, and Haaland also indicated he was fine. Nico O'Reilly is still dealing with a back problem, while Antoine Semenyo is the only player the club needs to wait on for updates.
