Historic Disaster at Old Trafford

Manchester United suffered a nightmare start against Aston Villa on Sunday, conceding twice in just three minutes and 42 seconds. It stands as the earliest United have ever fallen 2-0 down in a Premier League match.

Brazilian forward Alysson opened the scoring for the visitors in the very first minute of the game. Just moments later, Alysson fired another shot at goal. Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens spilled the strike, allowing Nicolas Jackson to pounce on the loose ball and turn it home.

Fast Goals and Historic Comparisons

Aston Villa's 2-0 advantage is the second earliest two goal lead scored in the Premier League this season. The only faster start came from Chelsea against Bournemouth, where Chelsea led 2-0 after just two minutes and 29 seconds.

This early collapse marks the first time since August 2023 that United have let in two goals inside the opening five minutes of a Premier League match at Old Trafford. In that previous game against Nottingham Forest, United fought back to win 3-2.

Relegation Struggles and Fan Anger

Manager Michael Carrick faces intense pressure as his side entered Sunday in the relegation zone. It is the first time in 40 years that Manchester United have dropped into the bottom three, a situation triggered when Nottingham Forest beat Manchester City on Saturday.

United are in severe trouble on the pitch. They have not won a single league match since August, when they recorded a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town. That result remains their solitary Premier League win of the entire season.

Protests and Response

Supporters showed their anger even before the match kicked off, protesting against the club's owners outside the ground. Once Jackson scored Villa's second goal, the crowd turned their frustration toward the hierarchy, chanting "We want Glazers out!" inside the stadium.

Bruno Fernandes gave the hosts some hope by pulling a goal back from the penalty spot after 16 minutes. However, Aston Villa successfully held on to their 2-1 lead past the half hour mark.
