Heavy goals and big shocks across Europe

Champions League Matchday 3 delivered 74 goals across 18 games. That is an average of 4.1 goals per match. Five teams maintained a perfect 3-0-0 record. Paris Saint Germain beat Barcelona 4-2, Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig, Liverpool defeated Villarreal 4-3, Real Betis beat Feyenoord, and Aston Villa beat Viking FK.

Bayern Munich and Arsenal drew 2-2 at the Allianz Arena. Bukayo Saka limped off early with an injury for Arsenal. The biggest shock came when Como thumped Manchester United, leaving manager Michael Carrick in a difficult spot.

Injury blow for Paris Saint Germain

Paris Saint Germain secured a 4-2 win over Barcelona, but they paid a heavy price. Ousmane Dembele went off injured after 20 minutes. Marquinhos and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia both went off on the hour mark.

Kvaratskhelia suffered a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Paris Saint Germain are strong, but they only won Ligue 1 by six points last season and did not hit top spot until mid January. A loss against Lyon on Sunday could see them drop to sixth place.

Liverpool rally as young stars step up

Liverpool fell into a 2-0 hole against Villarreal before fighting back to win 4-3. Manager Andoni Iraola has seen his team win every Champions League game so far, with their only loss across all competitions coming against Manchester City.

Several big names like Bradley Barcola, Florian Wirtz, and Alexander Isak have not hit top form yet. Dominik Szoboszlai is dealing with an injury, while defender Ronald Araujo is playing at right back on an emergency loan. Eighteen year old Rio Ngumoha was a bright spot, putting in an impressive performance on the right wing.
