Anger Over Ratcliffe Comments
Manchester United's Muslim Supporters' Club has called for co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to leave the club. This demand comes after the billionaire made new controversial comments about immigration.
The co-owner, who is 73 and lives in Monaco, spoke about the UK in a recent BBC interview. He claimed the country is on the slide because of immigration and welfare benefits, adding that nobody is tough enough to deal with the issues. This follows an incident in February where he said the UK had been colonised by immigrants, a comment he later apologised for.
Supporters Demand Ownership Change
The Manchester United Muslim Supporters' Club released a long statement on X to condemn his words. The group explained that they have lost all confidence in the current leadership.
In their statement, the group highlighted that the club's players, staff, stewards and fans come from many different countries, cultures and religions. They stated that this diversity is a strength of the club. They wrote that the club does not belong to billionaires or investment funds, but to the generations of fans who love it. The group concluded that enough is enough, and both the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe must go.
On Field Struggles Continue
This off field row comes during a very difficult period for the team on the pitch. United have started the season poorly, losing two matches in the Premier League. They were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek after a defeat against Brighton.
Fans are growing increasingly unhappy with how the club is being run. Before their recent 1-0 defeat against Manchester City, supporters held a protest with a banner criticizing the owners.
