Moving past the drama
Harry Maguire has insisted that the Manchester United dressing room left Lisandro Martinez and his recent outburst in the past. Martinez returned to the starting lineup as United played to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road against Leeds United on Sunday, though he was substituted at half-time.
Martinez had previously directed a verbal tirade at director of football Jason Wilcox after United lost to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, questioning the ambition of the club's summer transfer business. The Argentina defender later apologised for his actions.
Team spirit and injuries
Maguire spoke to reporters after the Leeds match and addressed the noise surrounding the club. He noted that Martinez came out and apologised, and the team has moved on. Maguire praised his teammate's performance in the first half and expressed hope that the defender did not pick up a serious injury.
Manager Michael Carrick previously stated that the rant was not a drama for the group. When asked if dressing room spirit was tested, Maguire admitted that playing for the club always brings tests, especially when the team is not winning enough matches.
Tough start to the season
United have accumulated only seven points from their first seven Premier League games of the campaign. This poor run forced Carrick to concede that the situation does not look great.
Maguire acknowledged that the squad has not played well enough to win as many matches as they did last season. He added that the players must find something within themselves to help the group, stick together, and prepare for the next fixture.
