A Dream Start for Koumas
Liverpool forward Lewis Koumas is riding high after a brilliant performance in the team's 3-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. The young attacker was named Player of the Match for his high energy display, which helped head coach Andoni Iraola's side advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
This match is part of a massive few weeks for the Wales international. He has also recently made his debuts in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Koumas explained that much of his success comes from his work rate off the ball, and he is happy that the manager trusts him to carry out the team's tactical plans.
Staying at Anfield
The young forward joined the Liverpool academy when he was 11 years old. Over the past two seasons, he gained valuable experience during loan spells at Stoke City, Birmingham City, and Hull City. Koumas credits those loans for his development, saying they helped him become the player he is today.
Although there were rumors of another move away from Anfield during the summer transfer window, Iraola told the club hierarchy that he wanted to keep Koumas this season. The player's father, Jason Koumas, was also a professional footballer.
Playing the Liverpool Way
Koumas believes his high intensity style fits perfectly with the club's history. He noted that Liverpool has always been a club where players must give absolutely everything on the pitch. He wants to keep pushing himself now that he has earned the manager's trust.
Reflecting on his quick rise this season, Koumas admitted he could not have imagined such a great start and felt like he was dreaming. He said he treats every match as if it could be his last time on the pitch for Liverpool, which drives him to leave everything out there.
