Choosing the Magpies
Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall has opened up about his decision to sign a new long-term contract with the club on September 11. The 22-year-old England fullback was a primary target for Manchester United during the summer transfer window, but he chose to commit his future to St James' Park.
No official bids were made by Manchester United, but Hall was aware of the interest. He has shown impressive form since joining Newcastle from Chelsea, initially on loan in 2023, before making the move permanent the following year.
Reflecting on the transfer speculation, Hall said he took the links as a positive sign that he was doing something right. He added that it was a credit to his performances.
Trusting the Manager
Hall explained that his decision to extend his stay was made easy by the club's direction. He stated it was a "no-brainer" to sign once he saw the ambitions of the manager and the team.
The defender said he knew very quickly that the manager would be great for Newcastle. He appreciated the club's efforts to bring in new players and improve the squad.
Hall has been in excellent form recently. He scored the winning goal in Newcastle's 2-1 victory over Hull City on Saturday. His performances have also earned him a recall to the England national team after he missed out on the World Cup squad.
Taking It Game by Game
While Manchester United struggle down in 12th place during the first international break of the season, Hall is focused on his current club. However, he admits he is not looking too far ahead.
When asked if the new contract shows his long-term commitment, Hall said he is grateful for the trust shown by the board and the manager. He explained that he is taking things game by game and wants to do his best to help Newcastle achieve their goals.
Newcastle will return to action after the international break with an away match against Coventry City on October 12.
