Unexpected drink on the court
LeBron James brought a light moment to the basketball court on Monday night when he tried a drink mid game. During the third quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers victory over the Chicago Bulls, James chased a loose ball out of bounds. He ran into a fan who was holding a cup of red wine.
After spilling some of the drink on his arm, James picked up the cup and took a quick sip. He later explained with a smile that he wanted to see if it was worth getting on his arm and noted that it was all right.
Fan reaction and match performance
The fan involved in the crash was Troy Clemons, a long time Sixers season ticket holder who grew up with the sons of basketball legend Julius Erving. Clemons said he was not upset about the spilled wine and was just happy to see James playing in Philadelphia.
James put together a strong performance on the floor. He finished the match with 15 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. The Sixers went on to win the game 126-107, which improved their record to 7-1 overall.
Enjoying the long season
Throughout the night, James looked to be enjoying himself. He danced after scoring a layup and shared a laugh with teammate Tyrese Maxey. Maxey also danced with James after scoring a shot of his own moments later.
James noted that players must find ways to enjoy themselves during a long season. He said it is important to appreciate small moments, give fans a good performance, and be a showman while playing hard.
Past events and next fixture
This was not the first time James interacted with alcohol during a game. In Game 1 of the 2017 Eastern Conference semifinals, he grabbed a beer bottle from a vendor after a missed shot, pretending to drink it before handing it back.
The 76ers now look ahead to their next match on Wednesday. They are set to play the Detroit Pistons, who handed Philadelphia its only defeat of the season so far.
