Big debut in New York

LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers will travel to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks on Tuesday in the season opener for both teams. This matchup will also serve as James' debut with the Sixers. James has played 34 games in the famous arena, amassing a 24-10 record while averaging 28.1 points, 7.4 assists and 6.9 rebounds per game.

He has met the Knicks only once in the postseason. That came in the first round of the 2012 playoffs, which the Miami Heat won 4-1. He averaged 27.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists during that series.

Memorable past performances

James has a long history of big games at Madison Square Garden. In February 2009, he scored 52 points, added 11 assists and 9 rebounds in a Cavaliers win against the Knicks. A year earlier in March 2008, he put up 50 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds.

More recently, in February 2025, he recorded 33 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a Lakers win. He became the first visiting player with multiple 30-point triple-doubles at Madison Square Garden.
