Yamal makes his Ballon d'Or case
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal believes he deserves to win this year's Ballon d'Or. The 19 year old forward claims that he and Real Madrid rival Kylian Mbappe are currently the two best players in the world. However, Yamal feels his trophies give him the edge.
Yamal helped Barcelona win LaLiga and played a part in Spain winning the World Cup in North America. The Ballon d'Or ceremony will take place in London on October 26. Yamal and Mbappe are both in the running alongside Harry Kane and Ousmane Dembélé.
Speaking to Movistar, Yamal said he believes he deserves the award because of what he has won. He stated that he and Mbappe are the best in the world and everyone who watches the matches knows it.
Mixed feelings after World Cup success
Yamal has started the season in great form. He scored twice in Barcelona's recent 4-2 win against Levante. That took his tally to seven goals in six matches this campaign. Barcelona have won all five of their opening LaLiga games and beat Feyenoord in the Champions League.
Despite his success, Yamal admitted he was not fully satisfied with his performances at the World Cup. He entered the tournament after returning from a hamstring injury. He played in all eight games for Spain, scoring once as they won the trophy.
Yamal said he was not happy with his own performance and knows he could have done more. However, he noted that he helped the team by dragging opponents away to create space. These comments show a change in tone from last week, when Yamal said he would not beg to win the Ballon d'Or.
