Defense questions police photos
Tyreek Hill faced a civil assault and battery trial in Miami. His wife, Lakeeta Vaccaro, spent nearly three hours under cross-examination on Wednesday. Defense attorney Michael Gottlieb showed jurors police photos taken after an incident in January 2024 at an Orlando hotel. Vaccaro acknowledged the photos did not show any red marks, bruising, or scratches on her face or body. She told the court that she still looked beat down in the pictures. Gottlieb asked why she did not photograph her injuries after any alleged incidents. Vaccaro replied that she was not trying to collect evidence.
Tensions rise in the courtroom
The questioning grew heated at times during the session. The judge admonished Gottlieb multiple times for interrupting Vaccaro while she tried to answer. Hill showed little reaction as he sat next to another defense attorney, occasionally snacking on candy or pretzels. Gottlieb read a text message that Vaccaro sent to Hill before the birth of their daughter. The message expressed gratitude for his support during the pregnancy. Vaccaro explained to jurors that she wanted to keep the family intact and stay on good terms. She also stated that doctors and police were starstruck by the football player, which stopped her from speaking out sooner.
Nanny camera footage and family testimony
Vaccaro pointed to an April 2024 confrontation in their Miami area condominium as a turning point. A nanny camera captured the encounter in their daughter's room while the child was napping. Vaccaro's mother witnessed the event and called the police. Vaccaro's sister, Ashley Vaccaro, also testified about hearing shouting and witnessing a spitting incident. Her brother, Kevin Vaccaro, told the court about noticing weight loss and emotional withdrawal in Lakeeta as the marriage deteriorated. The trial was set to continue with more witness testimony and possible statements from Hill.
