Kyrie Irving has stepped in to support NFL player Azeez Al-Shaair after the league fined him for a personal message on his gear. The Houston Texans linebacker was fined $11,941 for writing the name of a Palestinian girl killed in Gaza on his eye black.

The tribute was worn during a game against the Buffalo Bills. The NFL issued the fine because league rules do not allow players to show personal messages on their uniforms or equipment without getting approval first.

Al-Shaair's Message

The name on Al-Shaair's eye black was Hind Rajab. She was a Palestinian girl killed by Israeli forces along with six of her family members in Gaza City in 2024. The Israeli military recently admitted that its forces opened fire on the car carrying the family. They have since started a criminal investigation into the incident.

Al-Shaair, who is Muslim, has used his platform before to support Palestinians. He was fined in January for writing "stop the genocide" on his eye black. He has also worn special cleats during the NFL's charity campaigns to raise awareness. Last season, Al-Shaair said that if his platform can bring even a little hope to families in Palestine, then that is what he wants to use it for.
