The Reason Behind the Fine
Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair received an 11,941 dollar fine after wearing the name Hind Rajab on his eye black during the season opener against the Buffalo Bills. Rajab was a Palestinian girl killed in Gaza in January 2024 along with five other family members when Israeli forces opened fire on their car. Al-Shaair has faced multiple punishments from the league for displaying personal messages without prior approval since the start of the conflict.
Kyrie Irving Speaks Out
Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving posted on social media that he would take care of the fine. Speaking after a game, Irving stated that you have to stand up. He called Al-Shaair a friend and a brother in a revolution, praising the act as a selfless way to show up for others who lack a voice. Irving added that people in America have the luxury of going to bed in nice bedrooms while tax dollars go toward things many do not agree with.
