Tough start for Murray in Minnesota
Kyler Murray saw his debut for the Minnesota Vikings come to an early end on Sunday. The quarterback suffered a concussion during the first quarter of the match against the Green Bay Packers.
The injury occurred at the end of a 1 yard scramble by Murray. During the play, he took a heavy hit from Packers safety Javon Bullard. Packers defensive end Lukas Van Ness also pulled Murray's helmet off. Murray was briefly motionless on the turf, prompting his teammates to wave for medical staff to run out and help him.
Carson Wentz takes over the offense
Murray stayed down for several minutes before getting to his feet. He walked straight off the field and into the Vikings locker room. The team announced that medical staff were evaluating him for a concussion, and he was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game.
It was a difficult start to Murray's time in Minnesota. He signed a one year contract with the team in March after playing seven seasons for the Arizona Cardinals.
Veteran quarterback Carson Wentz stepped in to replace Murray. Wentz was named the team's number two quarterback last week. He entered the game and guided Minnesota to their first points, setting up a 38 yard field goal. J.J. McCarthy was listed as the emergency number three quarterback. McCarthy is the primary starter for the Vikings for 2025, but he was only allowed to play if both Murray and Wentz could not continue.
