Murray Back in Action
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray is ready to return to the field after recovering quickly from a concussion. Murray suffered the injury during the opening week of the season and had to miss the Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears.
He explained that he felt good pretty quickly after the incident. He described going through the league concussion protocol as just part of the process.
The injury happened on his 11th snap of the game during an awkward slide. He lay motionless briefly after Packers defenders Lukas Van Ness and Javon Bullard converged on him. Bullard received a penalty for unnecessary roughness.
Protecting Himself on the Field
This was only the second concussion of Murray's career. His first happened back in 2015 when he was a freshman at Texas A&M, also at the end of a slide.
Murray explained that he usually does a good job of avoiding big hits. He said he considers himself one of the least hit quarterbacks in the league because he is careful in the open field.
Before the injury, Murray had a tough start to the season. He threw an interception on his first pass and finished with 18 yards on three completions. Backup quarterback Carson Wentz stepped in to help the Vikings start the season with a 2-0 record.
A Friendly Rivalry
Murray will make his return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their quarterback Baker Mayfield. The two players were teammates at Oklahoma and remain close friends.
Mayfield joked earlier in the week that he understands why some people do not like Murray. Murray laughed off the comment, saying he respects Mayfield and that both of them are fierce competitors who will do anything to win.
