Big return in Atlanta

Kyler Gordon made a huge impact in his season debut on Sunday as the Chicago Bears beat the Atlanta Falcons 31-23. The nickel corner had been dealing with injuries and missed the first four games of the season while on the reserve PUP list.

When he hit the field at Mercedes Benz Stadium, Gordon delivered a historic performance. He recorded three sacks and two forced fumbles. That performance made him the first Bears defensive back to get three sacks in a single game since Todd Bell in 1983.

Overcoming injury doubts

Gordon signed a three year extension worth 40 million dollars in April 2025. However, multiple hamstring, calf, and groin injuries had limited him to playing in just five of Chicago's previous 25 games. General manager Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson both made public comments during the offseason highlighting concerns over his availability.

Gordon worked in the Chicago area during his rehabilitation with trainer Montel Fleming. Tests revealed that an issue with how his glute was firing created stress on his calf and hamstring. On Sunday, Gordon proved he was ready. Ben Johnson said Gordon provided a massive spark for the defense.

Teammates rally behind Gordon

Despite comments outside the team, Gordon stayed focused on doing his job to the best of his ability. He explained that he worked hard to maintain positive thinking through the entire recovery process.

His teammates in the locker room were eager to see him back. Cornerback Jaylon Johnson praised Gordon for working hard and putting on a great performance, while defensive end Daniel Hardy noted that Gordon put his heart and soul on the field.
