Slow Start Costs New York in Philadelphia

The Knicks dropped to a 2-4 record after losing 98-93 to the 76ers at Xfinity Mobile Arena. It was another game where New York started poorly before attempting a late comeback in their NBA Cup Group B matchup.

The 76ers took advantage of New York's early struggles, building a 14 point lead early in the third quarter. Despite the poor start, Jalen Brunson hit a corner three pointer with 1:32 left to briefly give the Knicks a one point lead. However, LeBron James scored on a fadeaway shot and VJ Edgecombe hit a deep three pointer to seal the win for Philadelphia.

Offensive Inconsistency Continues

New York won two straight games against Detroit and Chicago before this contest, but their offensive troubles returned on Friday. The team shot just 40.7 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3 point range.

Head coach Mike Brown addressed the offensive choices after the loss. "We're trying to get a home run every time we get the ball," Brown said. "We have to hit singles." Guard Mikal Bridges continued to struggle, while the team finished with 14 turnovers.

Players Call for Better Execution

Jalen Brunson admitted that hesitation has been an issue for the group when trying to make the right decisions on the floor. He noted that starting games better must be the main point of emphasis going forward.

Center Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds. He said the squad felt like a team on the end of a road trip, but praised their fourth quarter effort for getting out of the quicksand. He added that falling behind early forces them to make magic happen, which they could not manage this time.

76ers Prevail Despite Injury

The 76ers played without Jaylen Brown, who was out with a knee injury. Even without him, Philadelphia played with high energy throughout the night. Tyrese Maxey repeatedly got downhill to exploit the defense, and all five starters looked dangerous on offense.

This was the second time Philadelphia beat New York this season, following their win in the opening game last week. The Knicks won the NBA Cup last year, but coach Mike Brown stated that he treats every opponent with the same level of importance.
