Klopp reacts to City charges
Jürgen Klopp is not spending his time thinking about Manchester City being found guilty of 114 financial rule breaches. The former Liverpool manager said he is waiting to see how the legal situation pans out. The charges cover the period between 2009 and 2018, which overlaps with Klopp's time at Anfield starting in 2015.
"Should any sanctions be imposed, I naturally have nothing to do with it anyway, and that's why I'm waiting to see how things pan out," Klopp said. He added that he expects an appeal process to take a long time, so he is far from preparing for any titles to be handed over.
Klopp also expressed his deep respect for Pep Guardiola and the football City played. He said his respect for their level on the pitch is too great for him to say anything more.
New captain for Serbia clash
Klopp is now focused on his third match in charge of the German national team. Germany will face Serbia in Munich in the Nations League. The coach has to pick a new captain for this match.
Regular captain Joshua Kimmich was allowed to leave the camp after a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands and a home defeat to Greece. Klopp kept the identity of the new captain secret. He only revealed that the player with the most international caps will lead the team onto the pitch.
He also confirmed that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will play in his home stadium, the Allianz Arena. However, Klopp made it clear that Urbig will not wear the captain's armband in his first international match. Urbig said he is delighted to play in his own stadium and help the team.
Tough test against defensive Serbia
Germany are desperate for a win after a poor run of form. They are winless in four matches, which includes a World Cup last 32 exit to Paraguay and a group stage loss to Ecuador.
Serbia are also struggling. They lost both Nations League fixtures by a 2-1 score to the Netherlands and Greece, respectively, after heavy summer defeats to Cape Verde and Mexico.
Klopp expects Serbia to be a difficult opponent because of their experience and their tendency to defend deep. He said that an opponent sitting deep is a major challenge for any team. After the Serbia match on Thursday, Germany will travel to play Greece on October 4.
