Treatment Completed in Toronto

Kawhi Leonard has completed a treatment to address left knee swelling and is now beginning the return to play process in Toronto. The Toronto Raptors announced this update on Tuesday. The franchise also noted that it will issue another update on his status in one week.

The 35 year old player was sidelined due to the swelling after appearing in just two regular season games for Toronto. An MRI taken on the knee last month showed no structural damage, which was positive news for the team.

Career Stats and Past Knee Issues

Although his current issue is with his left knee, Leonard has a longer history of physical trouble with his right knee. He previously required multiple surgeries on his right knee to repair his meniscus and ACL.

During his two games this season before the swelling set in, Leonard was productive on the floor. He averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game during those two appearances for Toronto.

Trade Details and Big Contract

This is Leonard's first year back with the Raptors after being traded to Toronto from the Clippers during the offseason. His six seasons with the Clippers ended with a scandal marked conclusion before the trade took place.

Shortly after arriving in Toronto via the trade, Leonard agreed to a massive contract extension. He signed a two year deal worth 115 million dollars to extend his stay with the Raptors.

Championship History with the Raptors

Leonard has a successful history with Toronto from his earlier career. He previously played a single season with the Raptors, where he led the franchise to its only NBA championship in 2019.

Following that title winning campaign, Leonard left Toronto to sign with the Clippers in free agency. Now, after his knee treatment, he is preparing to make his way back onto the court for the Raptors once again.
