Record Stays With Ronaldo
Harry Kane missed the chance to equal Cristiano Ronaldo's record for scoring in the most consecutive Champions League matches. Ronaldo holds a tally of scoring in 11 games in a row. That record still stands after Kane failed to score on Tuesday against Atletico Madrid. Bayern Munich won the match 2-0 with goals from Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer.
The Run Comes To An End
Kane had scored in 10 consecutive Champions League appearances. He moved one behind the Real Madrid and Manchester United legend on matchday three of the campaign with his penalty against Arsenal. His 10 game run began when he scored twice against Union Saint Gilloise on matchday seven of Bayern's European campaign. He then scored against PSV Eindhoven before watching from the bench against Atalanta. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker picked up where he left off with two goals in the second leg against Atalanta. He then found the net in every game until Bayern were eliminated by Paris Saint Germain in the semifinals. He also scored against Bodo Glimt, Viking FK, and Arsenal.
Bayern Still Win
Even though Kane did not score, he still made a mark on the game. The second strike against Atletico Madrid came from a Kane assist. Ronaldo set his total of 11 in the 2017 to 2018 season as Real Madrid went on to win their third straight Champions League title via a victory over Liverpool in the final. Ronaldo's run began with a brace against Juventus in the previous year's final, followed by goals in all six group stage matches and both legs of the round of 16 and quarterfinal ties.
