Back on the field

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs spoke to reporters on Wednesday for the first time since his arrest in May following an incident with a woman at his home. Jacobs admitted that he made a mistake and said he was never concerned that his career was over. He spent the first six games of the regular season on the NFL commissioner exempt list, which meant he could not practice or play during that time. The league removed him from the list on Monday, and he is cleared to play Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Jacobs pleaded no contest on September 10 to charges of battery and criminal destruction of property. He was convicted of battery and fined 1,000 dollars, and reached a deferred judgment agreement on a damage to property charge. He stated that he is remorseful for putting the team in this situation. He mentioned that a quick decision can alter a life, and he is trying to learn and grow from the process.

Team support and future outlook

The Packers have stood by Jacobs from the start and allowed him to participate in the entire offseason program and training camp. Head coach Matt LaFleur stated that people learn from their mistakes, and he believes Jacobs is a good person who deserves a second chance. Without Jacobs, the Packers struggled with the worst running game in the NFL, ranking last in rushing yards per game at 59.8 yards. Quarterback Jordan Love indicated that the team plans to give Jacobs as many touches as he needs to get rolling in his first game back.
