Legal Action in Wisconsin

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has taken legal steps to keep records private. He filed a civil suit asking for a permanent injunction to restrict access to files related to an altercation at his home on May 23.

Brown County Circuit Court records show that Jacobs filed the suit on Wednesday. The move came one day after local police announced plans to release certain redacted records.

Privacy and Security Concerns

According to the lawsuit, Jacobs argues that the woman involved in the altercation requested privacy to protect her emotional well-being and safety. He states that simple redactions of names or faces would not be enough. He also points out that advanced artificial intelligence could identify her from her body shape on surveillance video.

Jacobs also worries about home security. He argues that the video shows the interior of his garage, including entrances, exits, and security arrangements. He mentions that professional athletes are frequently targeted for robberies, and releasing these details could put his home at risk.

Prior Conviction and NFL Status

Jacobs pleaded no contest on September 10 to charges of battery and criminal destruction of property. He received a conviction for battery, a one thousand dollar fine, and a deferred judgment agreement for the property damage charge.

A judge later lifted a temporary seal on the records, leaving the release decision to the police department. The NFL is currently trying to obtain the surveillance video for its own investigation. Jacobs remains on the commissioner exempt list and has not played this season.
