A Historic Night in Houston
The Buffalo Bills secured a hard-fought 36-31 victory against the Houston Texans on Sunday. It was a massive result for the team, who had not won in Houston since 2006. The win also marked Joe Brady's first victory as the team's coach.
The Bills offense was incredibly efficient, gaining 409 total yards on just 52 plays, averaging 7.9 yards per play. They even managed to score touchdowns on two separate drives that started deep at their own 4-yard line. This efficiency came from a strong downfield passing game. Allen completed 11 of 15 throws that traveled at least 10 yards in the air for 286 yards and two touchdowns.
Allen Makes NFL History
Quarterback Josh Allen had an incredible game, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another two. With this performance, Allen reached 303 career touchdowns, making him the first player in NFL history to record 300 touchdowns in his first nine seasons. He is also now tied with Frank Gore and Ottis Anderson for 20th on the all-time rushing touchdowns list.
This was Allen's ninth career game with at least two passing and two rushing touchdowns, which is five more than any other player in NFL history. He sealed the victory with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Palmer late in the game.
A major key to the win was the improved protection. After being sacked eight times by Houston last November, Allen was sacked only twice in this game. The Bills protected him by using three tight ends on 40.4% of their plays. This gave Allen time to find D.J. Moore, who had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Dalton Kincaid, who finished with 130 yards. It was the first time since Week 5 of the 2023 season that the Bills had two players with over 100 receiving yards in the same game.
