Back from injury
The Minnesota Vikings activated running back Jordan Mason from injured reserve on Saturday. This completes his recovery from a fractured thumb that required surgery last month. Mason missed several weeks after reporting soreness following a strong performance against the Green Bay Packers. In that game, he carried 15 times for 59 yards and a touchdown.
To make room on the 53-man roster, the Vikings released running back DeeJay Dallas on Friday. Dallas later re-signed to the practice squad and was elevated to the gameday roster for the upcoming matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.
Sharing the backfield
Coach Kevin O'Connell expressed confidence about having Mason back in the lineup. Mason is expected to split time against the Indianapolis Colts with teammate Aaron Jones Sr. During Mason's absence, Jones took 90 percent of the running back carries for the team.
O'Connell praised the workload and effort from Jones while noting the excitement of pairing the two running backs together. Mason is in his second season with the Vikings. Since joining from the San Francisco 49ers in 2022, he has rushed for 2,070 yards and 14 touchdowns.
