Denver stages massive comeback
Nikola Jokic recorded his 199th career regular season triple-double as the Denver Nuggets recovered from a 23 point deficit to beat the New Orleans Pelicans 141-135 in overtime on Saturday night. Jokic produced 35 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. He scored eight of his points during the extra period.
Jamal Murray added 42 points for Denver. The Nuggets wiped out the big lead using three pointers from Murray and Jokic, alongside a reverse dunk by Aaron Gordon. Murray tied the game late in the fourth quarter by making two out of three free throws with 17 seconds remaining.
Brazile steps up in overtime
Rookie Trevon Brazile scored 17 points during his home debut for Denver, with seven of those points coming in overtime. His corner three pointer with 1:25 left in overtime gave the Nuggets a 133-129 lead. Jokic is now second in career regular season triple-doubles behind Russell Westbrook, who retired with 209.
Denver got the win despite missing several key players. Cam Johnson sat out with an ankle injury and Alpha Diallo missed the game with a sprained wrist. Julian Strawther and Spencer Jones were also out.
Pelicans fall short despite hot start
Trey Murphy III led New Orleans with 26 points, while Dejounte Murray had 22 points. Derik Queen and Zion Williamson scored 17 points each. The Pelicans shot 65.9% in the first half and led by as many as 23 points, but they have now lost their first three games under first year coach Jamahl Mosley.
New Orleans did receive good news regarding center Yves Messi. The knee injury he suffered on Friday night in Utah was confirmed to be a contusion rather than a more severe issue.
