Facing a new era

The Los Angeles Lakers are finishing their preparations for the first game of the post LeBron James era. Coach JJ Redick spoke on Tuesday about his main concern for the team. He stated that the biggest unknown is how his new look roster will deal with adversity.

Redick explained that dealing with adversity is different for every team. He noted that how the team handles tough moments in November might differ from March. He hopes for growth throughout the season so the team handles adversity in the right way and prepares for a deep playoff run.

Handling the intense spotlight

Redick predicted that the Lakers will prove to be really committed to each other. However, he acknowledged that his large market team faces an outsized amount of intense scrutiny whenever it struggles.

He joked that reporters might tell him the sky is falling after just one game. He pointed out that the sky fell twenty nine times last year when the team lost that many games. The Lakers open the season on Wednesday by hosting the Golden State Warriors at Crypto.com Arena.

A busy summer of changes

The Lakers enter the season without James, who spent the past eight seasons as the face of the franchise. A large number of players departed from last year's roster, leading to a transformative summer of squad changes.

The team acquired center Walker Kessler, drafted Cameron Carr, and added several players in free agency. Austin Reaves, now the longest tenured player, believes the group consists of high character guys who will come together when adversity hits.
