Finger Surgery Keeps Mitchell Sidelined
New York Jets wide receiver Adonai Mitchell will miss a fourth consecutive game this Sunday. Mitchell injured a finger in practice before Week 2, and the team initially decided against putting him on injured reserve because they expected him to return quickly.
Coach Aaron Glenn revealed that Mitchell actually underwent a small procedure on his hand about a week or ten days after the injury. Mitchell is still considered week to week, but Glenn noted that he is moving his fingers around really well. The Jets kept him on the 53-man roster instead of placing him on injured reserve.
Before the injury, Mitchell recorded nine receptions for 122 yards in the first two games. Other Jets receivers aside from Garrett Wilson have managed only seven receptions and one touchdown since then.
Roster Changes And Injuries
With Mitchell out, Tim Patrick will likely start alongside Garrett Wilson when the Jets face the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Patrick just returned last week from a four-week stint on injured reserve.
The Jets could also get a boost from rookie Omar Cooper Jr., who has been designated to return from injured reserve after missing four games with a high ankle sprain. Cooper played only five snaps in the opener before getting hurt, including a 30-yard catch and run.
Meanwhile, running back Breece Hall is listed as week to week with a quadriceps injury and did not practice on Wednesday. He is expected to miss his third straight game. The team will lean on Braelon Allen, who rushed for a career-high 116 yards and one touchdown in last Sunday's 17-12 win over the Cleveland Browns.
