Missed Opportunities in Foxborough

The New York Jets suffered a 26-19 loss to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. Star wide receiver Garrett Wilson managed only four catches for 44 yards on six targets. He was clearly unhappy with his lack of involvement as he walked through the tunnel to the locker room after the game. Wilson told reporters that it is frustrating because the team lost and he wants to help.

The Jets ran 31 plays in New England territory, but the ball only ended up in Wilson's hands once for a 12-yard reception in the fourth quarter. He was targeted just three times in plus territory and only twice through the first three quarters. Wilson admitted that not every game goes your way, but he tried to keep playing his role and wait for his moment.

Struggles on Offense

The offense sits in the bottom 10 after averaging 18.7 points per game. They have scored only four touchdowns in the last three games. Their only score on Sunday came from a 48-yard pass to rookie Omar Cooper Junior. The team was undermined by poor efficiency on third down, going 3-for-10, and failing to score in the red zone with a 0-for-3 record. They also failed twice on fourth down.

Cornerback Christian Gonzalez covered Wilson on 17 of his 30 pass routes when lining up on the outside. While Cooper had a breakout game with six catches for 103 yards, and running back Braelon Allen rushed for 78 yards on 17 carries, the offense still fell short. Quarterback Geno Smith threw his first interception of the season in the fourth quarter and defended the game plan, stating that other players were open and producing.
