The Benchment and Fine

New York Jets nickelback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. missed multiple mandatory meetings last week. Because of this, the team benched him and handed down a fine.

Brownlee stated that he could not remember the exact amount of the fine. He only knew about it after receiving a letter from the team.

Accepting the Discipline

When asked about the missed meetings, Brownlee explained that it was an in-house matter that he needed to fix. He fully understood the punishment from the coaching staff, noting that accountability matters most.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn chose not to share the specific reason with reporters. Glenn stated that he preferred to keep the matter strictly in-house.

Impact on the Team

With Brownlee inactive, rookie D'Angelo Ponds stepped in during the 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Brownlee is the starting nickel for New York.

Brownlee confirmed that he feels good for the upcoming fixture. The Jets currently hold a 2-5 record and will host the Las Vegas Raiders, who sit at 3-4.

Background on Brownlee

The Jets acquired Brownlee and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick from the Tennessee Titans early in the 2025 season. In return, the Jets sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to Tennessee.

Tennessee originally drafted Brownlee in the fifth round of 2024. He has played in 13 games for New York, recording 14 tackles and one sack across six games this season.
