The attack in the park

Former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant has shared details of a scary dog attack that left him needing more than fifty stitches. Pennant was walking his American Akita, named King, off its lead in a north London park when the incident occurred.

He explained on social media that he was attacked by a German shepherd. Pennant tried to protect his pet, but the other animal grabbed his leg. He ended up on the floor with the dog still attached and showing no signs of letting go.

How King intervened

Pennant credited his dog with saving him from a much worse situation. The minute King realized what was happening, he fought the other animal off.

Pennant later told reporters that the two dogs were really going at it. King stayed by his side until help arrived. Pennant took an Uber to the hospital to receive treatment for four bite marks on his right leg. He noted that if King had been a smaller dog, there would have been no chance.
