Appeal Rejected By FA Commission

Crystal Palace will be without striker Jean-Philippe Mateta for their next three domestic fixtures. An independent regulatory commission has rejected the club appeal against his red card from Saturday 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.

The France international, who is 29, was sent off in the 13th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He was punished for a late challenge on Spurs captain Micky van de Ven. Referee Michael Oliver originally showed a yellow card for the tackle, but the decision was upgraded to a red card following a VAR review.

Mateta Set To Miss Three Matches

The Football Association released a statement confirming the outcome of the appeal. A statement from the Football Association read: "An independent regulatory commission has dismissed claims of both wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment in relation to Jean-Philippe Mateta."

Mateta will now be suspended for Palace home Premier League match against Liverpool on Sunday. He will also miss fixtures against Coventry and Hull later this month.

Difficult Times For Palace And Sage

The ban adds to the growing problems for Crystal Palace. Palace are currently sitting 18th in the Premier League table. Head coach Pierre Sage is under pressure following a series of poor performances.

Palace have lost their last three Premier League games. Across those three matches, Palace have conceded nine goals and failed to score any goals. Despite the recent poor form and pressure, Sage declared: "I will never give up."

Focus Turns To Europa League

Crystal Palace face Hoffenheim in the Europa League in their next match before returning to Premier League action against Liverpool.

Sage will have to reshape his attack without Mateta as the team looks to end their current losing streak and improve their form.
