Daniels sidelined again
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts. This is the second consecutive game he will miss because of a dislocated left elbow. Marcus Mariota is set to make his second straight start in his place.
The team remains hopeful that Daniels could return next week for their Week 5 game against the Giants. Daniels did practice in a limited capacity this week while wearing a brace. He said he felt fine doing basic movements like taking snaps and handing off, and he is not worried about injuring his elbow again.
Injury updates and defensive boosts
While Daniels is out, Washington has some players returning. Tight end Chig Okonkwo and linebacker Frankie Luvu are back after missing two games. Okonkwo had a hamstring injury, while Luvu was dealing with a groin issue.
Luvu's return is helpful for a defense that has lost two backup inside linebackers. Leo Chenal is out for the season with a fractured neck, and Jordan Magee is on injured reserve. In their absence, backup Kain Medrano played his first defensive snaps last week and returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. Rookie Sonny Styles also stepped up, winning NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
However, the Commanders will be without guard Sam Cosmi and safety Nick Cross. Neither player made the trip to London.
