Daniels returns to the field in England

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels returned to practice on Wednesday in England, but his availability for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts is still undecided. Daniels dislocated his left elbow during a Week 2 loss to Dallas.

Head coach Dan Quinn said he needs to see more from the quarterback before clearing him to play. Daniels participated in a limited capacity during a 60-minute jog-through in Hertfordshire. He wore a black brace on his elbow, which keeps his arm slightly bent and will remain on for the rest of the season.

Quinn said the team will not put Daniels on the field before he is ready. He noted that the quarterback has a high pain tolerance, but his return timetable depends on his strength, functionality, and pain levels.

Commanders manage injuries and backup plans

This is a familiar situation for Washington. Daniels suffered the exact same elbow injury in Week 9 last season. He aggravated it five weeks later, prompting the team to shut him down for the final four games of 2025. It was one of three injuries he faced that year, alongside knee and hamstring issues.

Specialists in New York and Los Angeles told Daniels he could play without surgery, though surgery remains an option in the future. If Daniels is not ready for Sunday, Marcus Mariota will start. Mariota started in the team's recent win over Seattle.

The Commanders are also missing other key players. Safety Nick Cross and guard Sam Cosmi did not travel to England due to injuries. Linebacker Frankie Luvu and tight end Chig Okonkwo are practicing but remain uncertain for Sunday.
