Jennings Decides To Stay In Minnesota
Jauan Jennings wanted to stay with the Minnesota Vikings when the San Francisco 49ers tried to trade for him. The 49ers made an effort to reacquire the wide receiver in trade discussions with Minnesota. However, the Vikings gave Jennings a voice during the process.
Jennings communicated that he believes in the direction of the team. Minnesota also believes that Jennings can be a key player for their offense moving forward.
Slow Start After Summer Move
The 29 year old receiver joined Minnesota during this past offseason. He signed a one year deal with the team that is worth up to $13 million.
His production has been limited so far this season. Entering Sunday, Jennings had caught just four receptions on eight targets for a total of 43 yards.
Past Success With San Francisco
Before moving to Minnesota, Jennings spent his first five seasons with the 49ers. San Francisco selected him in the seventh round of the 2020 draft.
He enjoyed a career year in 2024, when he caught 77 passes for 975 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, he led the 49ers in receiving touchdowns with nine scores. He also recorded 55 receptions for 643 yards, even though he battled through rib, ankle, and shoulder injuries for a chunk of the season.
Injury Troubles For The 49ers
San Francisco targeted Jennings because they have suffered multiple injuries at the wide receiver position this season. The problem started during training camp when Ricky Pearsall was placed on season ending injured reserve due to a knee injury.
Rookie De'Zhaun Stribling and veteran Demarcus Robinson are currently on injured reserve as well. Both Deebo Samuel Sr. and Mike Evans have also missed games with injuries this season.
