The Incident in Pittsburgh

Cleveland Browns defensive end Jared Verse spoke on Wednesday about a tense moment from Sunday's road loss to Pittsburgh. During a point after try, Steelers guard Mason McCormick swept the legs of a leaping Verse and slammed him to the ground. The play drew a penalty on McCormick, but the reaction from the Cleveland sideline left Verse feeling frustrated.

Frustration With Teammates

Verse admitted that the lack of reaction from the players around him upset him a lot. He mentioned that a similar play later happened to Derek Barnett on another field goal attempt. Verse stated that he lost it because those players are his brothers and teammates, and seeing someone do that to them upsets him deeply.

Clearing the Air

The defensive end revealed that he already had a conversation with his teammates about the situation. He acknowledged that he did not let them know beforehand about the comments he directed at the Steelers. Verse added that he needs to be better and that everyone on the team has to pick it up.

A Talkative Nature

Verse acknowledged his verbal style of play, noting that he likes to talk and attack things. Browns coach Todd Monken previously mentioned that the team needed to speak with their play. Verse agreed that he could have communicated better with his teammates about his approach, but confirmed it remains simply who he is.
