Injury Blow for Detroit

Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a right hamstring strain. The team announced on Sunday that the center will miss at least two weeks of action.

Duren picked up the injury during the first half of Friday's win against the Miami Heat. He managed to play only 10 minutes before he had to leave the game. It is a setback for Detroit as they try to build momentum early in the new campaign.

Offseason Contract and Performance

This situation follows a busy offseason for the center. Duren had a long standoff with the Pistons regarding a new contract extension. That disagreement meant he missed media day and the first few practices of training camp.

He eventually committed his future to the franchise by signing a five year contract worth 200 million dollars earlier this month. Duren hit the ground running on the court, scoring 22 points and pulling down nine rebounds during Detroit's season opening victory over the Boston Celtics.

During the previous campaign, Duren set a career high by averaging 19.5 points per game. His performances earned him a place in his first All Star team and a selection to the All NBA third team. His effort helped Detroit secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, his form dropped significantly during the playoffs. He averaged 10.2 points per game across 14 postseason matches before the Pistons suffered a second round exit.
