An unexpected emergency
The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a tight 19-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in London. To get the win, the team had to rely on a backup long snapper who barely practices the skill during the week.
Nose tackle DaVon Hamilton was subbing in for the primary long snapper, Ross Matiscik. Matiscik had to leave the game in the first quarter after suffering a shoulder injury.
Delivering under pressure
Hamilton delivered six snaps for punts, field goals, and extra points during the game. His biggest moment came when he delivered the snap for Cam Little to kick a game-winning 57-yard field goal.
Jaguars coach Liam Coen spoke about the unusual situation after the match. He said Hamilton only gets a few snaps a week in walk-through settings and not in live action very often.
Joking about the extra work
Hamilton previously filled in during a Week 18 win against the Tennessee Titans last season when Matiscik had a back injury. After this latest game, Hamilton joked that he does not plan to ask for extra practice time this week.
Punter Logan Cooke praised the massive defensive tackle after the match. Cooke joked that they would need a crane to lift the 335-pound player in celebration.
