Scary Injury Moment on the Field
Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell went to a local hospital on Sunday following a scary moment on the field. The defender suffered a neck injury early in the fourth quarter of the game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The incident occurred right after Campbell made his third tackle of the match. He hit Minnesota tight end T.J. Hockenson and immediately fell face down onto the turf. Campbell remained motionless on the ground, bringing play to a sudden stop.
Medical staff quickly rushed out to attend to him. After evaluating his condition on the field, medical personnel strapped Campbell to a backboard and carefully lifted him onto a cart to take him away.
Teammates Rally Around Carted Player
The scene on the field showed how much Campbell means to his teammates. The entire Detroit squad, along with most of the coaching staff, walked out and surrounded the cart as medical personnel prepared to move him.
Spectators inside the stadium offered a round of applause as the cart carried him off for further medical checks. The Lions later confirmed that he was being taken directly to a local hospital for a full evaluation of his neck injury.
Campbell joined Detroit as the number 18 overall pick in the 2023 draft after a college career at Iowa. He quickly built a strong reputation as one of the top defensive players in the league.
Contract Status and Further Lions Injuries
Last season, Campbell earned All Pro honors after putting together a historic statistical campaign. He became the first NFL player in seven years to record more than 150 tackles, at least five sacks, and three forced fumbles in a single year.
Detroit locked him in for the future last May by giving him a four year contract extension. That contract extension runs through the 2030 season.
Campbell was not the only member of the Detroit defense to get hurt on Sunday. Pass rusher DJ Wonnum and safety Brian Branch also went down earlier in the game, with both players suffering concussions.
