A surprising move to New York
Quarterback J.J. McCarthy admitted that it was a shock to be traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the New York Giants earlier this week. The Vikings originally drafted him in the top 10 of the 2024 NFL draft. He spent two plus years in Minnesota before the trade happened for a fifth round pick.
When he got the call, he did not anticipate it. However, he is looking at it as an opportunity to show what he can do in the NFL and take advantage of it. He spent the week working with the scout team for the Giants.
Focusing on the playbook and coach Harbaugh
Jameis Winston remains the team starting quarterback after Jaxson Dart was recently lost for the rest of the season. McCarthy is not thinking about becoming the starter right now. He is simply focused on this week game plan and learning the offense.
Coach John Harbaugh praised McCarthy for trying to be immersed in the playbook. McCarthy is already familiar with the Harbaugh family because he played for John brother, Jim, at the University of Michigan where they won a national championship.
Moving past the past
McCarthy did not want to get into what went wrong in Minnesota. He said he has turned the page on that chapter of his playing career. He noted that everything in the past is gone and his main focus is the present moment.
He wants to help Jameis Winston and support Jaxson Dart through his injury. He said he experienced a season-ending injury during his rookie year and feels for Dart like crazy.
